VOIMAT

VOIMAT is sculpted through forces of tension and gravity, induced by carefully arranged stones*, strings, and hooks. It plays with the contrast between lightweight and heaviness, man-made and natural, and geometric and organic.

Origami tessellations, supported by digital fabrication techniques, are applied to a simple sheet of paper to dramatically change its form and properties. The material choice and process were guided by values of ecological sustainability.

Originally displayed in the Heureka museum, the piece is now on permanent display in Design Factory at Aalto University.

*The work was updated to feature pillows rather than stones. It was installed in a setting where people would be sat underneath for a while, making them uneasy.
